The VISION Client

Young professionals often have a unique financial situation that doesn’t quite fit the “traditional” financial advisor model. Some are paying off student debt. Some have variable income from working multiple freelance jobs. Others are working in the corporate world and building up their emergency fund. Everyone is unique.

Our client Josephine is one of those unique situations.  She is a 32 year old Jersey City resident who rents an apartment with her fiancée, Jake. From 9 to 5 (more like 7) she works as a senior project manager for a Fortune 100 company, but has fearlessly taken up clothing design on the side.  “One of the perks of being so close to New York,” she says. She came to CURO when she was offered her current position and had no idea how to decode the long-winded benefits package that came along with the offer. With the package in hand, she started bouncing numerous questions off us over Skype.

  •  How much should I put into my 401(k)? What should I invest it in?

  • What do I do with the retirement plan at my current company?

  • They are paying for short-term disability insurance for me. Should I purchase long-term? What’s even the difference?

  • Should I purchase more life insurance through the company plan?

  • It says here I can buy company stock at a discount. Should I? How much?

  • They are offering Restricted Stock Units as an incentive.  What are they, and what do I do with them?

While these were all great questions and topics that we normally help clients with, we couldn’t provide her a straight answer to most of them. Why? Because we didn’t have enough information about Josephine outside of work. We didn’t know she was building up her clothing design business. That she and Jake we talking about planning their wedding. That she was still paying off loans from graduate school. So we took a step back, started from the beginning, and helped her into this new role with certainty.

Now that’s she’s settled in, we’re addressing other goals – growing her passion project, paying down that grad school debt, savings for retirement, and more. These goals are constantly evolving, and at CURO we’re working alongside Josephine and other young professionals to make sure they’re ready at every turn.

Let us help you make the most of where you are, so you can get to where you want to be.
